Description:
If you are new climbing, or need a refresher, here's where to start. This introduction to the world of rock climbing, set in either beautiful Joshua Tree National Park or Idyllwild, emphasizes fun and safety.
The class covers the essentials for safely climbing steep rock, including: equipment, knots, anchoring, belaying, communication signals, rating system, climbing techniques, and rappelling. Classes are taught on low-angle, moderate rock suitable for novices.

Essential Information:
Participants must be at least 12 years of age. All rock climbing equipment, including harness and helmet are provided. Rock climbing shoes are recommended, and are available on a rental basis at $5 per day. Bring water, lunch, sunscreen and a hat.

Full day; typically 8am - 4pm

This experience is weather dependent. Always contact the Experience provider with any questions regarding weather conditions.
What to Wear:
Wear shorts, tights, loose fitting pants, or sweatpants and bring extra clothing in case of cold weather.
Booking Information:
For this experience, it is recommended to request bookings at least 7 days in advance.
Cancellation Policy:
Prior to scheduling/booking a date for this experience, Cloud 9's standard return and exchange policy shall apply. Once you have scheduled a date and received a booking confirmation, cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the Experience will result in a cancellation fee of $25. Failure to appear on your booked date or to cancel and rebook at least 10 days prior to your booked date will result in the loss of the value of your Experience.

Where is the meeting location?
Once your date is booked, we will mail you information on the time and meeting place of your class, a map with directions to the climbing area, information on camping and motel reservations and a list of recommended textbooks. You will need to provide your own transportation to the climbing area, although we will assist you with carpool information if you so request.

What if this experience is cancelled due to inclement weather?
You will receive a full refund (or you can reschedule) if we are forced to cancel your class or guided climb due to circumstances beyond our control, such as inclement weather.
We will refund your payment in full (less a $25 cancellation/rescheduling fee per person) if you cancel or reschedule at least 10 days in advance of your scheduled date.
Cancellations with less than ten days notice receive no refund, although you can reschedule with a 50% refund.
Participants who do not show up forfeit their course fee. -
What if this experience is cancelled due to inclement weather?
If your experience is canceled due to inclement weather, you may either reschedule/rebook your experience for another date, subject to availibility; or you may exchange the value of your experience for another Cloud 9 Living experience in accordance with Cloud 9 Living's terms and conditions.

Should I tip my instructor?
Many clients ask us if it is appropriate to tip their guide. Absolutely! As you will see your guide will be working very hard to assure you a safe and fun climbing experience. If you feel they did a good job, please feel free to tip your guide.

Is equipment provided?
We supply all of the rock climbing equipment, including harness and helmet, at no extra charge. Rock climbing shoes, which will enhance your performance, are recommended, and are available on a rental basis at $5 per day.
For rock climbing classes, wear shorts, tights, loose fitting pants, or sweatpants. Bring water, lunch, sunscreen, perhaps a hat, and extra clothing in case of cold weather. For winter season classes at Joshua Tree (Nov. to March) we will send you our "Winter Clothing Guidelines". For Idyllwild courses lightweight hiking boots are recommended, along with a small daypack to carry your gear. You must supply your own food.
