Description:
Our Dinner on the Dunes trip is possibly one of the most unique kayak trips in California!

Kayaking Morro Bay in the late afternoon, you visit some of the favorite hangout areas for local wildlife before heading to the outer sandpit.

Beaching on the far side of the bay, you will have a chance to frolic in the pristine sand dunes while your guide prepares a delicious California beach style grilled dinner, complete with complimentary wines from a local vineyard and locally brewed beers.

As the sun slowly slips behind the dunes, you will climb back in your kayak for a magical paddle in the deepening dusk back to the docks - an experience you will not soon forget!

Availability:
Year Round, 7 Days a Week. Tours start 2.5 hours before Sunset.

Essential Information:
2 person minimum.

Typical Dinner on the Dunes
Cut vegetables, crackers and hummus dip
Grilled vegetables in olive oil and balsamic vinegar
Grilled gourmet sausage & veggie burgers, hot dogs for kids
Italian bread & Tabouli salad, Tossed green salad
Cookies or brownies
Drinks - beer, wine from Vina Robles, sodas and bottled water.

Duration:
3-4 hours total with 1.5 hours of kayaking

There is a 6:1 participant to guide ratio.

Weather Dependent:
This experience is weather dependent. Always contact the Experience provider with any questions regarding weather conditions. The climate along the coast in Morro Bay is temperate year round. Temperatures on the bay may range from 50s to mid 70s, sometimes in the same day. Average year round temperatures are in the 60s during the day. After sunset, temperatures can dip 5-10 degrees. In summer there is often fog along the coast and in the winter we may encounter rain. Local weather forecasts can be accessed at www.weather.com.

What to Wear:
Wear footwear that can get wet and muddy and avoid cotton pants or those that can hold water.

Booking Information:
For this experience, it is recommended to request bookings at least 7 days in advance.

Cancellation Policy:
Once you have received a booking confirmation, cancellations made at least 8 days prior to your booked date will incur a $15 fee. Cancellations made inside of 8 days will result in the loss of the value of your experience.

  1. Will I get wet?
    There are no large waves, but you should expect to get at least a little bit wet. Morro Bay is a great place for kayak trips in California because it is protected from the large waves of the open ocean by a four mile long sandspit. It is like kayaking on a small to medium sized lake, except there are some tidal currents. Occasionally, if it is breezy, small waves may kick up on the bay and you might get some spray in the boat. However, it is highly unlikely large waves will break over the boat to soak you. Water often drips off the paddles into the boat as well. To protect you against spray and paddle drip (and to keep you warm), we have waterproof fleece lined lap blankets available for your use. You do get in and out of the boats at the sand dunes and may get a little sandy or muddy. We recommend comfortable old footwear.
  2. Do I need to have prior kayaking experience?
    Absolutely not! Our kayak tours are designed to accommodate beginners as well as experienced kayakers. In fact, about half of our participants have never even kayaked before!
  3. Do you have a minimum age?
    No. As long as the young ones can sit relatively still in a kayak for the paddling time, they are fine. Really young kids (age 0-2) usually sit in a lap of an adult while somewhat older kids (age 3-8) can sit in the front of a tandem with an adult in the rear. Kids age 10 and up have the option to go in a single, but we always make sure they understand that they will have to paddle the whole way if they want a single. We have appropriate PFDs available for all age levels. Our ability to take kids of all ages kayaking on Morro Bay makes our guided kayak tours among the best kayak trips in California for families.
  4. What kind of kayaks do you use?
    We use traditional "sit inside" kayaks on our Morro Bay kayak tours. These tend to be drier, more comfortable and perform better on the relatively flat water of Morro Bay than "sit on top" kayaks. We offer single or double kayaks, depending on your preference.
  5. Do I need special gear on the kayak tour?
    No. Although you will get a little wet, wetsuits or other special gear are not required on our Morro Bay kayak tours. We also have waterproof fleece lined lap blankets to help keep you warm and dry. Our recommendations:
    1. Wear footwear that can get wet and muddy.
    2. Avoid blue jean long pants or cotton sweat pants. These can soak and hold water, making you wet and cold. Wear shorts or lightweight long pants.
    3. Bring a jacket - a windbreaker or waterproof jacket is best.
    4. Add an additional warmer layer for colder weather.
