About the North American SNJ-4 Texan:
Known as the "Pilot Maker" because it trained over 100,000 allied pilots in WW II, the Texan was built as an advanced fighter trainer for the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy and many Allied Nations.
The designation AT-6 was used by the Army Air Corps, while the Air Force refered to it as a T-6, and the Navy called the aircraft an SNJ. The Commonwealth Air Forces referred to it as a Harvard.
They were designed to be flown by experienced pilots transitioning to the hot front line fighters of the 1940's and were used to teach air combat, gunnery, bombing and aircraft carrier operations.
The aircraft has a 600 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1340 radial engine and carried armament of 3 .30 caliber machine guns and a 400-500 pound rocket or bombload. A total of 15,495 T-6s of all variants were produced between the mid-1930s and mid-1950.
It has been 67 years since first put in service, and is still going strong!

One of my all time great experiences !! I am an artist that specializes in WW II aircraft portraits but I am not a pilot, just an old art teacher. I am a docent at the SoCal wing of the Commemorative Air Force here in Camarillo. This flight with Vic in the North American SNJ-4 is invaluable for hands on experiences as a tour guide at our museum. I will never forget it and will be forever thankful for the gift from my family, especially my daughters, Gretchen, Erin and Lydia. Thank you. Best regards, Charles Carr, Jr.
