I live in Greenville,S.C. a few years back as older adults we were allowed to adopt our Grand-children. At the time they were 2,3and4. It wasn't easy but we got by. Our house got run down because we couldn't afford to fix stuff. We signed up for free wood (to burn for heat) and these kind people saw how our home was and they came out and winterized our home. One man went to his church and talked about our family, and how we didn't have a tree up,yet. They came out with a tree, gifts and food for our Xmas.

"that it is better to give than receive is an axiom most don't believe But if you give it a shot one day You'll find nothing else feels that way The recipient happy to be thought of the giver finds an outlet for their love

I believe giving really is better than receiving because God commands us to help others and to give to others and in the end we will be rewarded with an eternal life with our Lord. Seeing people receive items when in need is gratifying and rewarding just to see their faces alone. People who truly are in a situation where they need food, money, or anything else and then receive help, there is nothing better than seeing those individuals show gratification. Giving makes one happy and feel good about themselves, just think how those who receive feel!!!

Giving is a conscience choice to offer Love. One feels this on a level of soul connection. There are no questions about is this right or wrong. Giving is an expression of: Do with 'this' what you will. I want you to receive this gift and mold it into your desire and adventure. I want you to slip into the deep Love of the adventure or experience. Love You!

I believe that a person can bring much Joy by giving to others. I always get back so much Joy just from helping others. Getting a sincere smile or Thank You brings me wonderful Joy and a Smile to my heart!

My Stepdaughter is a cancer survivor and I see how much she gives to others even though she needs care. I would love to give to her the $5000 to donate in her name to help other less fortunate then her. Giving is all about bringing a smile to someones face no matter if the gift is material or yourself. When you make someone smile you receive the feeling back 10 fold.

I believe giving is better than receiving because it is CONTAGIOUS. Giving is not about me- Todays culture is all about "me and now". When you give this focus shifts to other! Some who are down on their luck, some have never had any luck and some are just kids hoping for some luck!. When I can give, large or small, the smile is so rewarding it is contagious! It makes me want to do it again - buy another cup of coffee, another cart of groceries, another kids tag of the Christmas tree. When I give- I do receive:)

Giving is so much more fun than getting something. When you find the perfect something for a loved one. I can't wait to see their face when they open the gift.

Ric Kempton

December 11, 2013

The giving is always so much more rewarding...both for the giver and receiver...mainly because of how much the receiver needs the gift, and how much the receiver appreciates the gift. The more humble, the more true emotion from the receiver....and from this simple emotion of appreciation, the giver also receives the greatest gift....knowing that in some small way...something good has been done

I have two babies, I want to give mine of course to St Jude or Make A Wish.. My babies had problems being born and were born early... I wanna help families, make their baby's better...happy, give someone more hope. Giving this will check off in my Bucket list. To answer your question, Giving has always been better to me... I love to see the light in their eyes, it makes me feel like my heart is growing three times bigger, like the Grinch. Every time I get choked up with joy! Tis the season! and I <3 it!

When I give a great gift, I love watching the receiver's expression. That look of utter joy brings a warm, happy feeling to me! When I "receive" I don't get to see my expressions!!!

When my youngest daughter was born she was very ill and my family needed to rely on the help of others. Now 13 years later, we have a healthy teenager and our family gives back to our community and those in need every chance we get.We know first-hand how important it is to help others at every opportunity, but especially during the holidays. If it weren't for the kindness of strangers we might not be able to help others who are struggling today and we always try to keep in mind ~ there but for the grace of God, go I.

Receiving gifts is a fun experience, but it can also plant a seed of greed. Giving of your time, your money, anything you are, plants seeds of joy, fulfillment, and happiness knowing you made someone else's day better and brighter.

Barbara Lopatin

December 11, 2013

No matter what your circumstances are giving always feels better than receiving. Putting others first takes the focus off yourself, and especially during lean times, makes you recognize your blessings realizing there is always someone out there who needs you more.

Heather Moss

December 11, 2013

I think giving IS actually receiving, and is much better than receiving a material item. When you give to a loved one, a friend, or a person in need, it is emotionally fulfilling. When I observe that I created happiness for someone, it makes me happy. And happiness is truly one of the best gifts, far more valuable than any materialistic item that can be received.

Yvonne Rorie

December 11, 2013

When I give, it helps to lower my blood pressure, it relieves stress and it makes me glow. People notice that there is something difference about you and it makes them inquire. When they find out what is making you so happy, they want that feeling too. And in turn they give.

Valiantsin Zakhvatkin

To share, to give A happiness's slice, For sure better than receive It has value, no price! To see a smile on someone's face And shine and light in pretty eyes Make special every person's days Make home-Earth a very kind and nice! Let's give a joy, let's give a fun Lets' share warmth, blue sky and sun And every day we still believe That GIVING better than RECEIVE! We all get something from the life, more or less. And if we share with others, we can keep the balance in our world and try to make people happy!!!

At the end of the day, we all need to realize that we're all fortunate and there's many with much less so it's necessary to try and help through charity for those less fortunate.

That feeling you get when you see someone smile when they receive something truly unexpected is indescribable. It is a high like no other. In just about every religion & philosophy for living there is something about being generous and giving. There is just something universal & plain good about giving. It must be hard-wired into us as human beings. The holidays are just an excuse for us to justify that feeling to ourselves and each other.

Victoria Leustek

December 11, 2013

Everyone has been in that situation where you are on the "unlucky" side...Well giving is a way to help put a smile on a face and heart of someone who lost "That loving feeling". Giving is a way of paying it forward for all the blessing big and small that are in my life. It is the best medicine to help you and someone around you remember we are all here together, and today, by giving, is my "HUG" to you. Enjoy Life, laugh often, give freely and you too will be blessed.

December 11, 2013

Giving is so rewarding because you get to have a powerful impact on someone else - it helps you rise about whatever circumstance you are dealing with and be someone who creates the possibility of a better life for another human being or animal. I have an Autistic son and he has shown me how to be loving, generous, compassionate and patient with people in a way I had never known before. The feeling I am left with when I give is gratitude for being someone who makes a difference.

Keith Krenek

December 11, 2013

From one person's viewpoint (let's call him Joe), receiving warms the heart of only Joe, while giving warms the heart of Joe plus the recipients of Joe's gifts. So Joe can choose to receive and know that he will be happy, or he can choose to give and know he and others will be happy. Mathematically, giving is better than receiving.

Lynn Weston

I believe that life is about others, reaching out to them, doing for them, and giving to them. The greatest gift is to give, and if you must receive, receive a friendship, a handshake, or a smile.

i believe that giving is better than receiving because when you give somebody a gift it makes them happy and puts a smile in their face which in return puts one on my face. if i won the 5000 dollars i would buy rides in the NASCAR cars for all of my 5 brothers who would love the experience.

Rita Lazar

to put a smile on someone's face when knowing you will get nothing in return is true Christmas spirit. Even a small token can brighten a hopeless day. Teaching the younger generation to appreciate all of those around you, by paying it forward will hopefully carry over for generations to come. Go ahead walk in another person's shoes and realize how blessed you really are. Giving will change your heart for the good. Merry Christmas!

I believe that "giving REALLY is better than receiving" can be a deceiving statement because when you give of yourself, you will find your treasure. I am a parent advocate for a developementaly delayed adult daughter, and I also work in an inclusive elementary class. I would donate to ACLD (Adults and Children with Learning Disabilities and Developmental Delays, Inc.) who work so very hard to give their participants "An enviable life" http://www.acld.org/

Everyone of us has a purpose and it is to serve others the minute we figure this out our lives become abundant in so many ways. Giving is that action of love and the more you give God or the universe responds by giving us more. I love to give others not only things but expiereces things fade or go out of style but expierences last a lifetime because they live in us.

When I look at the person or family that you help and know that a smile and a hug is priceless, the Joy you give someone is the gift. It's amazing what giving can really teach you, I look at it this way doing something nice for someone without question can mean more than what ever you can receive, In Life we all go through something and one little giving can help you too giving back means you already have received your gift. So I feel that means a lot more.

I believe giving is better than receiving because when i give someone something that makes them gasp or cry or otherwise react favorably, I know it will be something they will remember for a long time which in turn brings me great happiness and joy. By giving,I am also receiving something special and wonderful too.

December 11, 2013

One simple gift is more than just an object. Giving to others will not only fill the giver feelings of selflessness, lovingness, kindness, and joy. It could do everything from creating a smile to changing a persons life. Everyone deserves to feel loved or thought of. Gifts can provide hope or comfort in all shapes and sizes. We really do get more from giving to one another. That is why I believe giving truly is better than receiving.

Lisa Fury

Giving is better than receiving because giving teaches humility, which leads to compassion, making the world a better place to live in.

Denisse Romo

December 11, 2013

Giving is always better than receiving, I was raised to always give and never expect anything in return. I was raised that when you give with one hand you shall receive with both hands, God is big and he makes sure that when you give, it will work in magical ways that everything you need will work out. To the people who wish they could receive anything shall always know to receive the love that people have to offer because that is the biggest thing that motivates a person to move forward.

Sharyn Armstrong

If you live by the philosophy and give, then you shall be rewarded by happiness that you have gifted to someone who is less fortunate that yourself.

I believe it is my privilege to make a powerful impact on those I come into contact with in my life. When I look back, I can think of no greater reward than seeing my life touch others for good. As much as it depends on me, I want to leave a legacy of hope, strength, and encouragement to empower others so that they can in turn become a blessing to someone else. A cycle of love cannot easily be broken and one person can do much, in sacrificial giving, to fulfill another's life!

Just knowing you have found someone that perfect gift something that. Shows you took time to really think about something that touches their heart makes you feel better than anything you could recieve i think

December 11, 2013

The feeling one receives when giving gifts actually increases their happiness than when receiving. At least, that is the way I feel! I have always loved shopping for others. It's also fun to buy gifts for others, "just because". It lets you know you always are thinking of them and that you appreciate them. You don't have to wait for a special occasion to give. Again, it brings me joy and. I believe gives you to those who receive the gifts as it lets them know they are a special person in my life.

The ultimate example of a "it is better to give than receive" life is Jesus. He gave His all for nothing in return. I want to follow in His footsteps. In the end we take nothing with us, only what is done for Him will count. To show others kindness and love is pure joy. To give of yourself, without expecting anything in return, is where the blessing lies. We try to teach this lesson to our 6 children....to instill in them love and compassion and joy in giving to others.

Watching the expression on someone's face when they receive an unexpected gift, not matter what the monetary value, is a pleasure you will remember for the rest of your life. Surprising a close friend, complete stranger, or charity of your choice is the gift that keeps on giving!

THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN SEEING THE ELATION ON A PERSONS FACE WHEN YOU GIVE THEM A TRUE EXCITING AND UNQUE GIFT. THAT EMOTION AND THE EXPRESSIONS ON THIER FACES IS THE REAL GIFT.

Shirley Romero

December 11, 2013

Money doesn't last as long as the forever memory of the smile on the face of someone that receives a gift from you and the feeling it gives you in giving it, and hopefully it's like a pebble dropped in a pool of water that causes a ripple effect, a ripple of paying it forward.in blessings of love and caring.. Giving with no intent of repayment is such a gift of heartfelt caring.

Elizabeth Brethour

December 11, 2013

When you give something to someone you both receive something wonderful--more than the gift itself--for the recipient, the joy of knowing that someone cares, is thinking of you, and wants to make you happy and for the giver--knowing that you've bestowed that feeling in the recipient.

SN Dream

There are too many reasons. It truly gives you a sense of purpose in life. Giving is receiving. It's healthy. It fulfills you and brings you light. And the more you give to those who are less fortunate and don't have a voice (my charity), it's a reason to live. Giving is about love. Loving without any selfish expectations. And love is the most incredible feeling in the world. Love is happiness.

Ive lost almost everyone in my family including a son last year ,and more recently my 79 yr old neighbor who has been like a father to me , i know that giving is much better than receiving just look at their faces when they get a gift, that is how you know and also i get gifts everyday just by knowing my friends and their children ,my hubby ,and my sons and my little missy girl ,so if you give you get back more in time so give with your heart and share a smile

Susan Vantslot

If I'm ever in a sad mood or things are completely hectic at home with the family, giving to those less fortunate or just living on hard times, is the quickest and easiest way to make me feel better. My children have learned by my "giving ways" to do just the same. They too are givers and it makes me so happy to know that I have raised my 3 children to show empathy, love and compassion towards others all year long.

Lena Edwards

December 11, 2013

Though giving is often done because we care, I also think that giving can be selfish. This is because of the wonderful feeling of joy I experience when I make someone smile when I give something to them. You never know when the one small gift you give might be just the thing needed to lift the spirit of a person who might be at a very low place in life.

Brandi Bornschein

December 11, 2013

Kathy Betzholtz

December 11, 2013

I believe that giving is better...To state the obvious, for like minded people, it feels RIGHT. But more importantly, it feels as if it atones for any bad (big or small) you (I) have done in life. I cannot make it all perfect but I can try to balance it out. I am a (admittedly) selfish person and have dwelt on my problems for too long…I believe that if I hope for good for a stranger who has worse problems than I have it may erase my past bad(s). This is meant with most sincerity

I'm rich in many ways & none of them are monetary. I have a warm home, food on my table, grown children , 4 grandchildren , a wonderful husband of 38 years , my health. And I'm a giver. I give knowledge ,I give tokens of appreciation, I do whatever I can to help a bad situation , or job, .I don't expect anything in return. I host functions. I give myself to everyone and what I get back money can't buy. Smiles, hugs, comfort, relief , the words I love U , thanks. By giving I'm definitely receiving.

Lori Weyer

December 11, 2013

Giving is truly better than receiving when one understands what it really means to give. True giving is rooted in love. It is not about the GIVER and making them feel better about themselves. It is an act of kindness that is unconditional and doesn't expect something in return. Genuine giving is an act of love. And yes, giving is better than receiving, but LOVE surpasses them all.

when you give to someone, the look of happiness and thankfulness from the receiver is great, but it's more the feeling I get. I love to give to others, it makes me feel like I helped or made their day. It's one of the best feelings a person can have.

I will make it short and simple .... " Giving is the art of caring and caring is loving and sharing .... "

Rick Wheeler

December 11, 2013

Giving is a way of feeding your own soul. The warm feeling inside reminds yourself that although there are people that need help, there are people that are willing to be there for them, and to be one of those people is an awesome thing. To know you are helping for no other reason oher than you can, there's nothing quite as fulfilling. It's not for the recognition of doing a good deed, it's to renew faith of good men on the earth. There are still good and faithful people who will help those less fortunate, even total strangers.

Nancy Rowe

December 11, 2013

The joy you give to others when you give them something is priceless. The sparkle you see in their eyes and the smile that breaks into a grin. When you give your time to help someone else succeed or accomplish something, it makes you have a sparkle in your heart. Once you give to others, it provides a chain reaction--others helping others.

My husband is the most amazing man. He had faith in me when my faith was gone. His kindness taught me and my 6 year old daughter that wishes can come true; a safe, loving and happy family could really be ours. Nels is my knight. He would love to fly in a military jet or ride in an Indy Car. When we see this on TV he says, "If only..." How many times I said that years ago. Please help his, "If only..." wish come true.

During the holiday season, one custom that is shared across many religious and cultural traditions ranging from Christmas to Hanukkah to Kwanzaa is the act of giving to others.During this holiday season, let's not lose sight of the value of giving to others. It does not matter whether you give lots or little, give gifts or intangible things. What matters most for meaningful happiness is appreciating the importance of those around you, family, friends, and community, and to do so each and every day of the year and not just simply on Christmas morning.

I truly love giving gifts to family & friends.not too long ago there was a woman (homeless) laying on a bench in downtown co. a lady came over and gave her a loaf of bread and I gave her 5.00. that made me feel so good to help people that need it so badly. I know I have a son who is in the same situation. I love giving to my grandchildren. they asked their mom, how does grandma always know what to get us. its fun and to watch their sparkling will melt your heart. its just rewarding

Reciving is wonderful, however giving can make or break a persons life. By giving, a person can feel better about themselves. When a person feels better about themselves they will be more productive for everyone.

It use to make me feel good to help out others when I could. Now it seems I don't have a choice with the way our society and government is shifting to a socialist attitude to "spread the wealth" to those who CHOOSE to not help themselves. It's getting pretty tight around my house now.

Witnessing that childlike smile on someone's face & knowing you played a part in enhancing someone's day or week is what makes giving better than receiving. Their is no greater fulfillment than giving generously and graciously just for the pure happiness of others.

Giving makes my heart warm and toasty! When I give a gift or perform a random act of kindness to someone I love deeply or even to a stranger, it fills me with a sense of complete fulfillment. Giving is better than receiving because making other people happy makes me smile bigger and brighter than when I receive. When I give, it is contagious and encourages others to give and me to keep thinking of new ways to make others smile.

I'm a firm believer in giving & helping others because there is always someone that is worse off then you in anyway (ex. health, family, financial). I am not wealthy but I volunteer & do what I can for others, most of the time without them asking. It does not cost a thing to make someone smile or give them a helping hand when they need it. Life has not always been easy for me & I know it is the little things or gestures that you can do for someone that they remember forever! Pay it forward, karma :)

I've spent over 20 years giving throughout the year volunteering in youth sports, simply because it feels good to help others. I've been fortunate to see kids learn, grow and to directly help them experience something they may not have had the chance to experience. In my humble opinion, that is a very fulfilling way to live.

There's so many in this world that just can't afford a gift nor do they have family who can afford to buy them one!

Kristina Mathis

December 10, 2013

Giving is better than receiving to me because I don't get that excited feeling when opening a gift for me as I do when someone is opening one from me. I have a good life and really don't want for things ( except the usual new wardrobe, car, and all my loved ones problems worries and debts to be gone) so it just deep down makes me feel good to make someone smile. If only more people would catch on what a wonderful world this could be 😊

December 10, 2013

I believe that everyone wants to be used for a greater purpose. The universal question asked by people around the world is why am I here. When we give to others, I believe we start to find that answer. Giving blesses the giver just as much as the receiver. When we help others, we end up helping ourselves too. Additionally, giving is showing a demonstration of love. We all need to see more of that. Therefore, giving, not receiving, is what begins and sustains a cycle of helping, healing, and love that should never be broken.

Paige Mckenzie

December 10, 2013

I believe giving not only puts a smile on your face, but it fills your soul as well. Doing something nice for someone is very contagious, and attracts very positive energy. The gift of giving, leaves you with a feeling that is PRICELESS. It would be very difficult to give and not receive, it just won't be of monetary value.

What makes us survive and grow stronger as a society is our altruistic bent that lifts all of us up. The receiver gets support and in return has an expectation of fairness, the giver receives social benefit and a healthy boost of joy.

Giving gives you the opportunity to see the joy in others eyes which really is a gift in itself. Giving is rewarding, it makes not just the person feel special for receiving a gift from you, but you yourself feel a like you've conquered the world just by making someone else happy.

I absolutely love giving out gifts weather its Christmas, Valentine's Day or a birthday. I guess the reason why is too see the expression of excitement and surprise on their face. I bought my husband a NASCAR experience in this year for his bday and thought he was going to fall out of his chair. Your gifts help me to see the smiles and excitement on my friends and families faces.

Giving is so much better than receiving especially when it is well deserved. My husband is a Vietnam Vet who has lost "many brothers of war" but his older and younger brothers to heart attacks and his wife to cancer as well. Last year I gave him the ridealong which was unreal. This year, whitewater rafting, I can't wait to see his reaction. Giving to someone who has lost so much is the best feeling in the world. Thank you Cloud 9. I couldn't have done it without you.

Giving back to the community, move forward the good thing that I have in my life. Moving forward the good gives the opportunity for the recipient to move forward to someone else. It can be as small as a thank you or helping hanf. Like a pebble thrown in a pond;watch the ripple effect. I'm physicallydisabled retired teacher and I try to do this everyday. MOVE FORWARD.

In a way, giving is also receiving. The joy you receive from blessing someone's life is one of the most beautiful gifts. Not only that, but putting someone before yourself, putting their needs before your own, and giving selflessly, will bless your life in ways you never imagined, maybe at the times you need it most and from people you might least expect because when you give, you take that joy with you and inspire others with it..and what goes around comes around. It's a beautifully contagious thing.

This is my motto for life. We have raised our Daughter to live by this since she was a baby and she lives by it today. As a baby and every year on, just before Christmas, She would pick out her toys to give to our local shelter. It was always a beautiful feeling to help those less fortunate and adopting families from the battered women shelter to buy presents for the holiday. it didn't matter if anything was under the tree. Sharing & Giving is the reason for the season.

You get more joy seeing the smile and love on another person's face than getting your own gift. It makes you feel good and wonderful inside and no one can take that away from you. Once you do it you will be hooked and want to do it again and again. You can't recreate that feeling you get when you give someone else a gift.

Heather Sanders

Giving is better than receiving because hopefully it will cause a ripple effect in all of society putting forth the idea that we ALL need each other's help. According to the Bible, we are supposed to love our neighbors as ourselves. If we care so much about ourselves and our families, then what better way to enact this principle that was meant not only as a reminder of selfless love, but to meet our neighbor's needs. When you give, you are enabling someone to receive the best gift there is and that's love.

Giving is better than receiving in many ways. Our society today tends to forget this principle and often greed consumes people. It is much more rewarding to be able to creat another humans happiness. Making someone else happy will lead to your own happiness.

Frieda Jeffers

December 10, 2013

Fortunately, my family and I have sufficient things to not only meet our "needs," but to cover a good number of our "wants." No one really needs one more thing to "dust." What's more important is sharing and giving -- sometimes tangible gifts, sometimes experiences that become memories that last a lifetime. Gifts can be as simple as a smile to a stranger, or volunteering your time to help a neighbor or at a local shelter or food bank, or donating to a charity that exemplifies your values and your hope for a better future for others.

In this world of vast cultures and languages, one common ground we can all share is the act of giving. No matter our differences, it is a communal act that anyone can understand and appreciate and does not require words to express the gratitude felt; the emotions and reactions are simply astounding. This is why they call it the "Joy of Giving"!

I believe giving and receiving are equal. When you give a gift to someone, no matter what the gift is or who the person is, their smile is the greatest gift of all. It's the smile of acceptance and their way of saying "Thank you for acknowledging me. You've made my day!" A smile can change anyones bad day into a good day. Knowing you helped changed someones days by giving, is the best gift you can receive!

We are all here having a unique human experience. This experience leads us all down different life paths. Those of us fortunate enough to have a roof over our head and food to eat, should give our time to those less fortunate to help ease their suffering in any way we can. As a human being and as a society, we need to focus less on getting and more on giving, whether it be giving our love, our time, or our money. If everyone gave just a little, the world would be a much better place for all.

Being able to bring joy to the lives of others is what makes giving better than receiving. It really is a continuation of the Thanksgiving spirit in being able to share your good fortunes with those you love and as well as showing those less fortunate that the world is still filled with kindness, caring, and hope. Giving is its own reward, the smiles it brings to both parties is the icing on the cake!

Giving is way better than receiving! The feeling I get when I give is what makes this statement true. When we recieve it's nice too know someone thought of us but really it's just another thing to add to our collection of things. When we give and know we made a difference in someone's life it means for than anything we could possibly receive. I sponsor 4 children in various countries around the world through compassion Canada and those pictures of them growing up happy and healthy are the best gifts I've ever received!

Your reward in giving is to just see the joy and pleasure on the face of the child or adult you are giving to. It's not just about giving a gift, but giving someone young or old the opportunity to see or experience something new and seeing that joy on their face is so rewarding in itself. Or giving a coat, or a pair of gloves, or even a cup of coffee and sandwich to a homeless person on the street on a cold day and just seeing the gratituded on their face. That's why it's better.

Giving really is better than receiving for many reasons. It's a form of humility, and shows true character. Giving is great for your health. It also creates a personal high, known as the Helper's High, and helps people have a sense of self-worth. I also believe that giving is important for the employer I work for to give back whether its to potential clients, clients, and/or community. This is important because it is a reflection of who I am and the type of people I choose to associate with. Ultimately making my life better, my relationships healther, and outlook brighter.

My son and I spent years in and out of hospi tree als while my daughter learned how to manage without us. Long story short. Years of struggle and pain I finally was able to put myself through school. Tired of poverty living. I wound up meeting the absolute love of my life. My best friend and at the same time I landed a fabulous job. I could afford things and just because too. I love the end result!

When I was a child I was raised by a single mother and 5 siblings(1 disabled). The moments when someone would send a gift or bring food to our home unexpectedly ,I would watch my mother cry. I never understood why since we were all so happy to have RECEIVED the gift. Now, that I am grown and have children of my own, I understand. She was crying because she wasn't able to GIVE us anything. It hurts your heart when you watch struggle and can do nothing about it. That's why giving REALLY is much better than receiving.

My daughter is 5 and I am trying to teach her the value of helping others. We donate her old toys/clothes to other kids, we invite "stragglers" over for holiday dinners, she sees me volunteer in the community... Today I explained the need for blood/platelet donation, and she wants to come with me when I do it. Kids need to learn early how important it is to help others and how good it can make you feel to do something so simple.

Giving allows you to comfort people, to stretch their limits or to make them feel loved. Giving is better, because it allows one to be as personal as their imagination allows. And if done well, the recipient should feel as satisfied as the gift giver.

Giving a gift is better than receiving because when you give a gift from the heart after putting love, care and thought in that special present, you are in turn blessed because you receive the gift of joy and appreciation right back from the person you gave the gift to and you know that they will cherish it. Anticipating a gift you crave is exciting, but once you have that thing you thought would make you happy, it soon becomes just one more thing in a life that's just the same as it was before you got that purse/car/diamond on which you future happiness and contentment had been based. But seeing the joy in someone's eyes when they receive what they had wanted but didn't expect, that feeling puts a piece of happiness in your soul that lasts when the wrapping's all thrown away. Giving the is gift you give your soul.
