Fun Ways to Stay Warm in the Winter

Ready or not, winter is nearly upon us. You may be dreading the chilly days ahead, but winter doesn’t have to be all work and no fun. We’ve put together a list of fun and festive ways to stay warm throughout the upcoming season. In fact, you might enjoy the winter so much, you’ll never want it to end!

Accessorize the Chills Away

Your winter uniform doesn’t have to be monotonous and dull. You can have fun with creative ways to stay warm . . . and get some smiles along the way.

Around the house: Kids aren’t the only ones allowed to wear fun slippers. How about these tiger claws or dog slippers? Not only will they keep your feet warm, they’ll also hilariously confuse any household pets. Pair them with a wacky robe and you’ll have trouble getting anyone in your house to take you seriously.

Out and about: Check out these neck warmers from Eddie Bauer. Unlike a scarf, there’s nothing to wrap or tie (does anyone else get confused by how to keep those things on?!). Just slip it on and go. Or cover your head with something that has a little more pizazz than a black beanie. Again, kids aren’t the only ones allowed to have fun in the winter!

Outrun the Cold

A great way to stay motivated to keep in shape over the winter is to sign up for a holiday race. It doesn’t have to be a marathon — even a simple 5K will get you moving. All that movement will get you warm in a hurry, plus the afterglow of accomplishment will keep you warm for days. We recommend finding a friend to train with you so you’re not tempted to skip when the cold outside makes you want to hibernate.

Adrenaline, Baby!

Because nothing warms you up faster than getting your heart pumping! And if exercise isn’t your favorite way to get there, you still have options to warm up naturally—and fast.

Indoor Skydiving

Indoor Skydiving – Experience the thrill of skydiving within the confines of a comfortable—and heated—indoor setup. Feel the wind rush through your hair and learn the art of balancing-while-falling. It’s a trip!

Indoor Kart Racing – It may not be NASCAR, but when the roads are icy and the temps are low, some indoor kart racing can be just the ticket. Compete for the fastest lap against friends, family, and other racers, or just race for a personal best. Either way, the heat of competition will keep you warm.

Hot & Tasty Treats

Mulled Wine – A winter classic, this popular beverage is perfect for warming you up from the inside out. It’s also simple to make. The combination of spices, cider, and red wine taste like the holidays and will keep you warm while checking out the Christmas lights around town, caroling, or staying cozy at home.

Soup – Eating soup is a delicious and satisfying way to stay warm during winter. Plus there are endless varieties, so you won’t get tired of always having the same thing. From bisque to broth, chowder to chili, soup hits the spot.

Taste Something New – Take your culinary adventures to the next level and try some new things this winter. Virgin Experience Gifts offers a variety of Food & Beverage Tours, some that require walking, but others that take place inside the warmth of a kitchen, brewery, or winery. Or learn how the masters themselves do it in a nice warm kitchen with some cooking lessons for groups or individuals.
