Pocono Raceway is the pride and joy of the Pennsylvania racing world. Located in Long Pond, the track is home to a number of driving events, including professional competitions among NASCAR and IndyCar circuits. And for good reason.
The 2.5-miles of asphalt present a unique challenge to drivers, boasting a tri-oval shape that results in overall lower speeds and an increase in shifting gears across a series of three turns. But while this "Tricky Triangle" (as it is so nicknamed) may present slower turns than its D-oval counterparts, it also offers one of the fastest straightaways available to Indy and stock car racing!
Also cleverly (and appropriately) nicknamed for its features is Dover International Speedway, known by racing fans as "The Monster Mile." This mile-long run of concrete gives race car drivers four turns to maneuver within a tighter oval than is traditionally used in pro circuits, thereby offering an intense, exhilarating experience.
When it comes to the Formula 2000 and drag racing events offered through Cloud 9 Living's catalog of Philadelphia driving experiences, there are few locations better to enjoy them than these three places out east.
New Jersey Motorsports Park comes with the sought-after Thunderbolt and Lightning Raceways — the perfect settings for Formula 2000 race car driving of all skill levels! The Thunderbolt Raceway is often referred to as "The Jersey Devil," thanks to its string of 12 intense turns and a lengthy ½-mile straightaway, all over its 2.25 miles of asphalt. Meanwhile, the 1.9-mile Lightning Raceway is slightly more forgiving, but still gives race car drivers 10 corners to get around, on top of some interesting changes in elevation along the track.
Raceway Park is a favorite New Jersey destination among drag racing fans and drivers, with turf that also caters to performance driving, motocross and karting enthusiasts. The facility offers two drag strips — an eighth-mile run for juniors, and a quarter-mile strip with a global reputation, thanks to its higher elevation and optimal traction that makes for incredible drag racing times!
And then there's the quarter-mile stretch of concrete at Maple Grove Raceway. With a racing history dating all the way back to 1962, the Philadelphia driving experiences hosted here are in the most capable hands when it comes to both professional and public events.
