Begin with reviewing the goals of each sailor and also a review of some basic sailing principles from the book "The Complete Sailor". After the introduction and reviewing safety, you will prepare the boat and sail!Key Info>
The small class size means that all students will receive personal attention and hands-on learning. Everyone will have the chance to pull lines, trim sails, and pilot the boat. Your experienced and patient captain will be by your side the whole time to teach and answer any questions that you may have. Choose between 2 class options:
Intro to Sailing Lesson
Enjoy 2 hours on the water learning the basics of sailing or improving your skills. Have the opportunity to pull lines, trim sails and pilot the boat!
Learn to Sail Progressive Lesson
Includes a series of six, 2-hour lessons with a USCG certified captain. Learn about safety on the boat, understanding and finding the wind, how to use the wind to move the boat, tacking and gybing, rules of the waterway and much more. Upon completion of the course you'll be eligible to join the LUCA Boat Club!
Now is your chance to get on the water and try your hand at a new skill!
- Participants under 14 years of age must wear a life jacket. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
DurationDepends on the option selected. Intro to Sailing Class is 2 hours on the boat, with a little time reviewing theory and printed material. Learn to Sail experience consists of six, 2-hour lessons.
Maximum ParticipantsYou will be accompanied by other people, for a maximum of 4 people.
SpectatorsThis experience is only for the participants.
Weather DependentThis experience will take place in inclement weather. Always contact the Experience provider with any questions regarding weather conditions.
What To WearDress in layers of comfortable clothing. If in doubt bring additional warm clothing. Extra hats, gloves, jackets, blankets, and rain gear can be provided the day of your experience.
Booking InformationFor this experience, it is recommended to request bookings at least 14 days in advance of intended date of use.
Cancellation PolicyOnce you have received a booking confirmation, cancellations and rebooking are allowed up to 48 hours prior to the Experience. Failure to appear on your booked date or to cancel and rebook at least 48 hours prior to your booked date will result in the loss of the value of your Experience.
What boat will be used?
The primary boat used is Solana, a 1976 Cal 3-30 sailing sloop with electric propulsion, full galley, icebox, and head (marine toilet). Your lesson may also take place aboard 'Fraid Knot, a 20-foot racing sailboat.
What should I wear?
Dress in layers of comfortable clothing. If in doubt bring additional warm clothing. Extra hats, gloves, jackets, blankets, and rain gear can be provided the day of your experience.
